Get pumped for the Australian Open with some of our superstar tennis players here at ICMI. With the first Grand Slam tournament of 2025 just around the corner in January, it’s a great time to hear remarkable stories of sportsmanship from some of the best to ever do it. Whether you’re a tennis diehard or want to get inspired by stories of resilience, dedication and hard work, these tennis champs have stories that’ll enthral and leave a lasting impression.

 

Pat Cash  

Hear from one the legends of the game. Aussie tennis great Pat Cash hit off his tennis career in 1980. Within a year, he was the top ranked junior player in the world. The rest is history. A career high ATP singles ranking of no. 4 in the world. A Wimbledon singles title, Davis Cup champion, a 5 times Grand Slam finalist. After retiring in 1997, he went on to become a slam winning coach, a popular commentator, analyst and charity campaigner. 

Ash Barty  

What better way to get pumped about next year’s Australian Open than to hear from someone who’s recently won it? Ash Barty secured her legend status with 3 Grand Slam wins, claiming titles at the 2019 French Open, the 2021 Wimbledon Championships, and the 2022 Australian Open. She was also the second Aussie tennis player to be ranked world No. 1 in singles after fellow Indigenous Australian player Evonne Goolagong Cawley.

Jelena Dokic  

A beacon of resilience, former world no. 4 tennis player Jelena Dokic is a truly inspirational figure. A refugee from Yugoslavia, she overcame racism, discrimination, bullying, poverty and abuse to become one of Australia’s greatest tennis champions. Since retiring, she’s become a best-selling author, popular tennis commentator and professional speaker, where she delivers talks that are impactful, honest and inspiring. 

Dylan Alcott AO

A revered figure on and off the court, Dylan Alcott has an impressive track record that includes wins at the French, Wimbledon, US and Australian Open Championships, along with a gold medal from the Tokyo Paralympic Games. He’s also an inspiring role model with a stellar personality, having established the Dylan Alcott Foundation in 2017 to help young Australians with a disability achieve their goals at work in sport or at uni. Dylan’s also a fantastic speaker with plenty of engaging stories to share about overcoming adversity, social inclusion and taking risks to achieve your goals.

Evonne Goolagong-Cawley AC MBE

Truly one of the greats of the game, former world no. 1 tennis champ Evonne Goolagong-Cawley has a whopping 14 Grand Slam titles to her name. She’s also a trailblazer, being the first Indigenous Australian woman to achieve international sporting fame. Winning 92 pro tournaments in total, including the Australian Open 4 times, her mark on the game is undeniable. Since retiring, she’s used tennis to promote better health education and employment for Indigenous youth through the Goolagong National Development Camp as well as advising the federal government and inspiring everyday people on the speaking circuit.
